Who we are

A bit about Starbeck Mission…

Established in 1886 to serve the railwaymen of Starbeck & Harrogate, we are continuing to share the gospel today. Originally ‘Starbeck Railway Mission’ we continue to be an independent evangelical church. We believe in loving and serving Christ, as the Bible commands us to, because Jesus died on the cross for us so that our sins could be forgiven. Our mission is twofold as summarised by a Starbeck Railway Mission motto: ‘A saviour for men and men for Christ’.

Starbeck Mission is a congregation of around 75 of all ages and backgrounds. We share a common love for the Lord Jesus and His Word.

There are many activities taking place through the week so we’re not just “Sunday Christians”. We have many excellent speakers from throughout the UK and abroad who teach God’s Word.

Our leadership consists of 2 elders and 3 deacons:

  • Stephen Metcalfe – elder
  • Richard Buckle – elder
  • Tommy Buckle – deacon
  • Jane Refson – deacon
  • Hazel Hunt – deacon (treasurer)
